Walking and the use of public transport promote health.

Our smoke-free policy has been in operation on buses, trains and in many of our stations for some time.

As from 30th April 2007, the policy now also applies across the entire Translink network including all property, rail platforms, bus stands and premises.

Translink supports No Smoking Day & The Smoking (Northern Ireland) Order 2006.

Tips to stop smoking successfully:

Set a date to stop and stick to it.
Break the habit - get rid of cigarettes and lighters.
Ease withdrawl symptoms- see your GP for available treatment.
Get support - join a stop smoking clinic or phone NI Smokers Helpline - 0800 85 85 85.

Health Awareness

We are supporting a broader health awareness drive to encourage people to walk or cycle to their nearest station and make use of their local public transport services instead of taking the car. Main railway stations are equipped with secure cycle parking facilities, many of which are covered.

Walking or cycling and the use of public transport can promote health in four ways:

Provides exercise
Reduces fatal accidents
Increases social contact
Reduces air pollution

We are keen to encourage sustainable transport options such as cycling, walking, car-sharing and public transport and are working with other organisations to promote environmentally friendly travel solutions.
