Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Paul Michael (centre) is joined by l-r Translink’s George Brand and Gerard McClelland from Glasgiven Contracts to launch Translink’s ‘My Antrim, My Journey’ art competition. Schools in Antrim and Crumlin are being asked to produce eye-catching artwork that will be used to decorate construction site hoardings while work is underway to build the town’s new £2.9m sustainable bus and rail centre. For inspiration pupils are being asked to consider what they love most about Antrim, the environmental features of the new bus and rail centre and the history behind the existing station site. With construction work now underway on Antrim’s new £2.9m Integrated Bus & Rail Centre, Translink is calling on schools in Antrim and Crumlin to get involved in the project by participating in the ‘My Antrim, My Journey’ art competition.

Pupils are being asked to produce attractive artwork that will be used to decorate construction site hoardings while building work is underway.

Translink Communications Manager Lynda Shannon says the initiative aims to get young people thinking about the benefits of this exciting new facility:

“This is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in this important development project and to celebrate the charm and appeal of Antrim as a place to live, work in and visit!

“The new facility will be Northern Ireland’s first sustainable bus and rail centre with cutting-edge design and a range of impressive environmental features.

“For artistic inspiration, entrants are being asked to consider a range of themes looking at Antrim from a historical, environmental, transport or contemporary perspective.

“We will select a range of pieces to enlarge and place on construction site hoardings situated at the station while work is underway and winners will also be rewarded with a free coach or train trip for their school.

“Full competition details are now available on our website www.translink.co.uk/antrimstation,” said Lynda.

The Translink ‘My Antrim, My Journey’ competition includes three age group categories: Years 4 – 7, Years 8 – 10 and Years 11 – 14 and the closing date for entries is Friday 30th March 2012.

The Antrim bus & rail centre development project has been funded by the Department for Regional Development and through the Sustainable Stations Project (SUSstations), with support from the EU Interreg IVB North West Europe Programme (NWE).
