27th June 2006
A meeting of ‘Tourist Minds’ occurred today at the La Mon Hotel and Country Club when Translink, Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) representatives and staff from Tourist Information Centres (TIC’s) got together to create stronger working relationships for the benefit of the tourism industry in Northern Ireland.

Philip Pentland NITB Director for Product Development and Joanne Elliott Brand Manager for NI Railways launch the new ‘The North Coast by train it’s a rail adventure!’ brochure at today’s tourism seminar.
Philip Pentland NITB Director for Product Development opened the day where the exchange of tourist and transport information was the order of the day.
Lynda Shannon, Communications Manager for Translink said:
“Today is about partnerships and a day of information sharing, of brainstorming and working together. We have no doubt that an integrated approach by key stakeholders will result in increased demand and growth of the tourism industry in Northern Ireland and Translink have a key role to play in this. We have numerous products and services on offer to tourists which are available from both our bus and rail stations and online.
“Indeed we are delighted to be launching our latest offering for summer 2006 here today with NI Railways ‘The North Coast by Train It’s a Rail Adventure’ brochure. This new product along with the various other travel options offered by Translink will keep even the most seasoned traveller ‘on the road’ during the summer months.”
She added, “Translink has made significant advances in recent years which have had the added benefit of providing more comfortable and convenient travel options for tourists than ever before. Our new C3K trains have been successfully introduced onto the local rail network, the first of our fully accessible double decker Ayats coaches has joined the Goldline fleet, Metro has celebrated its first birthday and we are currently undergoing a strategic review of all our Ulsterbus services. We aim to build upon these successes and continue to improve public transport options for all our passengers.”
Philip Pentland, NITB Director for Product Development said,
“NITB is delighted to work closely with both Translink and local authorities to ensure that the TIC Network is fully informed and can offer our visitors up-to-date information on all aspects of Northern Ireland tourism”.
Key tourist products and services presented included, Translink’s bus and rail options; NI Railways, Goldline Services and Metro plus relevant promotions and information, NITB’s Signature Projects including Giants Causeway, Titanic and Mourne National Park and updates on tourist products by service providers. The products and services discussed were relevant for TIC staff advising day trippers, holiday makers and foreign tourists visiting Northern Ireland.
