Public transport users across Northern Ireland are now set for speedier access to travel information through Translink’s Call Centre and Website, thanks to the new technology and journey plan facility, which has allowed all bus and rail timetabling data to be incorporated onto a single database.
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State and Minister responsible for Regional Development, Angela Smith MP announced the completion of the £88,000 software investment today (December 10).
“Our fully integrated system was developed in response to increasing numbers of Call Centre enquiries from mobile phone users, and expanding access to the Internet,” explained Ted Hesketh, Translink Managing Director.
“Recognizing the importance of travel information to our customers, we invested £250,000 in our Call Centre earlier this year. We now have 25 full-time agents handling in excess of 100,000 calls every month.”
“This latest investment means Internet and Call Centre users now have access to the fastest and most comprehensive travel information available in the UK and Ireland, even for the most complex enquires.” he said.
The new system can provide integrated timetable information for Translink’s Internet Journey Planner and Call Centre Journey Planner programs for Ulsterbus, Citybus (now Metro) and N I Railways services.
Data is automatically transferred to a central database, eliminating the possibility for errors. This has been achieved by ensuring that the system is completely compatible with software operating across all scheduling systems, delivering cost effective operational schedules through fleet management and driver rosters.
The system also produces text and html files to which design applications can be given, producing printed timetables, information booklets, and other passenger literature.
