Translink welcomes Real Time Information Project

11 October 2002

Translink today welcomed the Regional Development Minister’s announcement of a £1.6 million joint project between Translink and the Roads Service to provide Bus Priority and Real Time Information on bus services from January 2003.

Translink Managing Director, Mr Ted Hesketh, commented, “Translink welcomes this system, which we have been advocating for some time.  It’s state of the art technology is particularly innovative and the system will be the first of it’s kind on public transport in Ireland.  It will allow us to use the very latest technology to further enhance the already excellent information and travel services we provide to passengers.”

Translink’s Call Centre provides dedicated timetable information 364 days a year, while it’s award winning interactive website offers a journey planning and timetable information service.

Mr Hesketh concluded, “I fully believe that passengers will find the new system of real practical benefit in planning their journeys.  I look forward to the commencement of the new scheme, which I am hopeful will be further extended following it’s initial introduction.”

Bus Priority and Real Time Information will initially be operational on the City Express and CentreLink routes.
